Ego

Last week I was in a conference were I listened a lot of speakers giving speeches. I didn’t think too much of it then but later it came to me that almost every speaker used 10-15 minutes of their time to tell about themselves. “I’ve done this and that and graduated from there and recieved this and that award.” Now, honestly, I would rather hear their thoughts and ideas than hear about their education or previous work history.

Is it the way to go when you’re giving a speech or is it just that people are so egoistic that everytime they get a change they want to tell about themselves rather than their thoughts? Or do they not have enough to say so they fill the gap by telling things about themselves?

All the speakers were excellent and I enjoyed listening them. None of them seemed too selfish so I guess giving a 10 minute introduction of yourself is the way to go. Now, what does that tell about out business world?

If we need to make sure others know who we are and where we come from to gain respect then I think we’ve lost something. Our young generation is out of work and they have no chance to ever build their track records if we keep valueing too much previous employment history.

If Einsteins track records before the introduction of the theory on relativity would have mattered too much then I doupt the theory would never have seen the daylight. I think we value certificates, diplomas and previous employment records too much. I think we should give more room for new ideas and innovations and utilise the enthusiams of the younger generations. I think we also need to renew our business world and think about the way we work but let’s have that one another time…
